This week in games: The Division holds a beta test, Dangerous Golf gets explosive - bryanthret1985
Farewell, January. We scarce knew ye. Let's ring out the month with some gaming news—including an increasing golf game, a bunch of random trailers, and maybe several game recommendations for the weekend?
Aye aye, captain
Two excellent games are free to play on Steam this weekend, and they both have to do with ships. Boats. Gliding the briny. The games? Sunless Sea and The Ship: Murder Party. Sunless Oversea features some excellent writing, but it's actually The Ship I'm recommend checking out if you haven't before—it's an older-ish multiplayer game, thusly I can almost guaranty the servers will be more booming this weekend than they've been in a while.
Plus it wish get you prepped for the Remasted (non a typo) version orgasm in fortnight.
Disunite and conquer
Something else you could be playing this weekend: The Division's beta. Preordering the game gets you in, or you could advert out in Twitch chats of channels streaming the game and wait for people to exclude keys—seems to be occurrent rather a bit. The beta runs from now until Sunday, January 31.
If you're performin on an Nvidia card, make a point to grab the latest drivers—The Division's beta was included alongside Rise of the Tomb Raider in this week's Courageous Ready Device driver set. Need to make fated all those tiny pass animations are rendered correctly.
Pretty damn big
Eager Light's expansion "The Following" is start to look inferior like an expansion and more like a stigma brand-new gamey, with the developer Techland claiming the map out is twice as big as either of the areas in the original game—a.k.a. IT's an expansion almost as big A what free last year. Slews of parkour in my future.
Going pro
College student? Play a good deal of Heroes of the Ramp? Like a slew? Blizzard's working their "Heroes of the Dorm" e-sports tournament once more this class, and registration is now open. Too old/young to participate? You can leastways watch the tourney on ESPN2 again this year, with the sports network promising coverage again.
Hopefully IT results in more disjointed Twitter rants. That was my favorite part last year.
A golf game I might in reality constitute good at
Fact: I am frightful at golf game games. I understand the idea (set back the ball in the hole), I understand the math (hell yea, angles), but I lack the finesse to Tiger Woods my way through them.
Only directly whatsoever former Criterion devs are making a game called Dangerous Golf, imputable release in May. The developers call it "arsenic serious a golf gamey as Burnout was a serious simulation to drive games," and the goal is to use your golf game ball as a weapon. That is something I rump do. In fact, that's bad much how I swordplay almost typical golf games. Look into this screenshot:
Oh, some other survival game
Funcom is making another Conan game (i.e. the Peasant, not the talk of the town-bear witness Host). Sort of. Because they're trendy, Conan Exiles is a survival/crafting spirited.
"You are an exile, same of thousands cast knocked out to fend for themselves in a barbaric wasteland swept in sandstorms and besieged by enemies along all side. Grow crops or hunt animals for food. Harvest resources to physique weapons and tools. Build a shelter to survive. Rag crosswise a vast world and explore unaccompanied, or band together with otherwise players to progress entire settlements and fortified strongholds."
Yeah, definitely sounds corresponding…same of those games. I'll reserve judgment, but nothing about this has gotten me particularly excited yet.
Beyond lengthy development
I remember when Ubisoft first talked about Beyond Bully & Evil 2, way back in 2008. Almost a decennium ago. Since then it's been confirmed and reconfirmed and now confirmed one Sir Thomas More time—Michel Ancel says he's still working connected it, then carry that game…someday. (Via GameSpot)
Pizza party
Platinum apparently has a new niche—translating '80s cartoons into cel-shaded beat-em-ups. Later on last class's Transformers: Destruction, the latest property to get ahead the Platinum treatment is Adolescent Spor Ninja Turtles. Hither's the first trailer for TMNT: Mutants in Manhattan:
